With summer in full swing, it's more important than ever to protect your skin from the sun. You should use SPF skincare products all year round, even when the sun isn't too strong, but it's especially important to use them when the sun is shining brightly. Especially if you have rosacea, as the sun is one of the main triggers that can cause inflammation.
Sunlight-induced rosacea flare-ups occur because the fragile capillaries of rosacea sufferers can be easily damaged by UVB rays, resulting in visible capillaries and redness of the skin. Did you know that just a few minutes of sunlight on rosacea-prone skin can lead to redness?
The results of an American National Rosacea Society survey of 431 people show that 80% of people with rosacea claim that being in the sun made their rosacea worse. The same number agreed that time spent in the heat has the same effect. This doesn't mean you can't spend time outdoors, but if you suffer from rosacea, try to avoid sun exposure during peak heat and apply SPF regularly.
Another study by the National Rosacea Society found that applying sunscreen, or SPF, helped reduce the incidence of redness in people with rosacea. Sunscreens with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide as their active ingredient have proven to be the best choice. In Rosalique cream we use titanium dioxide and also 5 other active ingredients that work on your rosacea.
On this blog, we wanted to share and answer some frequently asked questions about Rosalique and SPF.
1) What SPF is used in Rosalique?
We use SPF 50 at Rosalique because rosacea sufferers should use SPF 30 or higher to keep their sensitive skin adequately protected.
2) Does Rosalique protect against UVA/UVB rays?
Yes, Rosalique protects against both UVA and UVB rays. The SPF in Rosalique has a 5* Boots rating, making it perfect for rosacea sufferers.
3) Can I still tan if I use SPF 50?
Yes, you can still get a tan while using SPF 50. SPFs above 15 can even help you develop a golden glow without the unpleasant side effects of unprotected tanning.
4) Can I apply Rosalique only to the affected areas of my face or does this mean my tan will come out uneven?
Using Rosalique only on the affected areas should not visibly affect your tan, but we recommend applying Rosalique all over your face to ensure you are fully protected from the sun. However, our experience is that you often want to apply Rosalique only to the areas affected by redness or that you do not need a lot of Rosalique cream to achieve effective coverage of redness. In this case, be sure to apply your usual SPF cream and on top of Rosalique in the desired amount and you will be adequately protected.
5) How long does SPF last? Do I need to reapply it during the day?
On cloudy days or if you spend most of your day in the office, applying Rosalique cream in the morning will likely protect you for most of the day. However, if the sun is shining brightly, if you spend a lot of time outside, if you are tanning, or if you have an active rosacea flare-up, you should reapply your SPF approximately every 2 hours.
6) I don't get sunburned easily, do I still need SPF?
Yes, you should use SPF daily to protect your skin from a broad spectrum of harmful UV rays. Minimizing UV rays penetration into your skin is important because they can trigger various skin disorders, as well as premature aging.
